The Clovis Animal Shelter is looking for 50 families to become pet foster parents before the animals are adopted out.

The shelter is turning to the public to help reduce crowding by engaging in pet foster parenting. The idea is to socialize animals to ready them for new homes because it is much easier for a socialized animal to adapt in a household when adopted, a Clovis Police spokeswoman said.

A foster parent taking care of a newborn pet who needs to be bottle fed will be provided with bottles, formula, medicine and medical care by Animal Service.

Foster parents will have the first option to adopt the animals they are caring for, police said.
