The first public workshops around the Valley will be held Tuesday in Fairmead and Bakersfield for people to learn more about environmental reports for high-speed trains in the region.

Representatives of the California High-Speed Rail Authority will have maps and other documents to help residents find their way through the massive environmental-impact reports for the Merced-to-Fresno and Fresno-to-Bakersfield sections of a proposed high-speed rail system.

A 45-day review period is open through Sept. 28 for people to weigh in with comments on the reports and suggestions for the project.

Tuesday's workshops are at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, 22491 Fairmead Blvd. in Fairmead, south of Chowchilla, and at Grace Baptist Church, 2550 Jewetta Ave. in Bakersfield. Both sessions are from 4 to 7 p.m.

Other sessions will be:

• Le Grand: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, LeGrand Legion Hall, 12560 Le Grand Road.

• Wasco: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Veterans Hall, 1202 Poplar Ave.

• Chowchilla: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Chowchilla Fairgrounds Little Theater, 1000 S. Third St.

• Corcoran: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Technology Learning Center, 1101 Dairy Ave.

• Fresno: 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 30, Harmony of Harvest Church, 1410 Kern St.

People can provide written comments on the environmental documents at the workshops and log onto computers to submit comments online.

Oral comments will not be accepted at the workshops because a series of hearings is scheduled in September for public testimony.
