Two months after surviving a near-fatal crash, Kingsburg's Kody Swanson was back on the racetrack. Not only that, he resumed his winning ways.

Swanson, 20, led the final 80 laps and held off Tracy Hines to win the JD Byrider USAC Silver Crown 100 Thursday as part of the Kroger SpeedFest at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis.

Swanson built several big leads only for yellow flags to allow Hines to close back in. Hines was the polesitter.

Swanson's brother, Tanner, placed third. Kody Swanson also took fifth and Tanner eighth in the 30-lap Mopar USAC National Midget feature.

It was May 21 when Swanson was air-lifted from his racecar after it violently flipped and skidded into a wall at Tri-State Speedway in Huabstadt, Ind.

Fresno State soccer player joins U.S. national camp

Fresno State defender Lauren Lindstrom is participating in the U20 U.S. soccer team selection camp in Los Angeles, the only player from the Western Athletic Conference to get an invitation.

The camp, which ends Sunday, features 25 players and is directed by April Heinrichs, captain of the U.S. team that won the first FIFA Women's World Cup in 1991.

As a freshman last season, Lindstrom started 21 of 23 games for the Bulldogs.

Prandini nets two fourths at Pan American Junior meet

Jenna Prandini closed her high school career by placing fourth in the 100 meters and long jump last weekend at the Pan American Junior Track and Field meet in Miramar, Fla.

The Clovis graduate and five-time state gold medalist also gave Team USA the lead on the first leg of the 400 relay only to fail to make a clean exchange with Keilah Tyson, who dropped the baton and didn't continue.

Prandini timed 11.56 seconds in the 100. Trinidad's Michelle-Lee Ahye won in 11.25.

Prandini, who will begin college Sept. 26 at Oregon, fouled on four of her first five attempts in the long jump finals before going 19-4. Her personal record is 20-41/4. The gold went to Brazil's Jessica Reis (20-113/4) in a meet for 18- and 19-year-olds.

Valley baseball team wins Cooperstown youth title

The TC Twins, a youth travel team of 12-year olds from Fresno and Clovis, captured the Cooperstown All-Star Village Week 7 championship after finishing 9-0.

The Twins won the six-day tournament while outscoring opponents 111-12 and hitting 35 homers. They won the championship with a 15-5 victory against the Indiana Nitro.

Players are Chase Rocamora, Braden Fitzgerald, Carson Olson, Gio Guzman, Zach Presno, Bryce Ruggeroli, Darren Jansen, Quentin Selma, Jack Taylor, Keenan Wolf and Marcus Mele.

The Cooperstown All-Star tournament features roughly 30 teams per event for 12 weeks.

Braves start 3-0 in San Diego

The Central Valley Braves 14-year-old baseball team is 3-0 through three days of pool play at the USA Xtreme Diamond Sports World Series in San Diego.

Central Valley has won 11-4 over Sacramento Showcase, 5-4 versus San Diego Gameface and 14-8 over VSA Baseball.

Clovis Bullets advance 5 teams to national events

The Clovis Bullets girls fast-pitch softball organization is sending five teams to national tourneys.

The 16-and-under and 12-and-under teams, coached by Steve Twet and Scott January, respectively, won ASA Western Regionals. Also advancing are the 14U Dick Brown, 10U Mike Henkle and 10U Jonathan Reid teams.

Coach Twet's 16U team will play in Prescott, Ariz., 14U Brown travels to Spokane, Wash., 12U January and 10U Henkle stay home and host the nationals in Clovis, while 10U Reid will play in San Diego, all in the first week in August.
