School: Clovis West

Dynasty builder: During Baxter's time at Clovis West, the girls have won 15 consecutive Central Section team championships, while the boys have won 13 straight. The latest in those streaks came May 21 during the Division I finals. Baxter has helped produce 88 individual and 54 relay champions in 15 seasons at Clovis West.

Unparalleled depth: The girls team had a meet-leading 23 qualifiers who produced 452 points, five individual and three relay champions. The boys team qualified a meet-tying 21 who went on to set a section- finals points record of 534, nearly twice as many points as second-place Clovis. The boys had three individual champions and two relay winners.

Swan song: The D-I finals were the last meet for the 57-year-old Baxter, a four-time Bee Coach of the Year who decided to step down at Clovis West to take over the swimming program at feeder school Kastner Intermediate. He also will work with the water polo programs there, teaching fundamentals and techniques.

Background: Baxter was a two-time national champion and four-time All-American at UCLA before spending 18 years coaching high school and club swimming in Southern California. After taking over the Golden Eagles, he watched his children – Trent, Kyle and Tristin – have successful aquatics careers at Clovis West, each earning a Division I scholarship.

The secret: "It's his charisma. That more than anything is what motivates swimmers and allows us to have a great relationship with him and makes us want to be there every day to work hard. He's a great person and a passionate coach. Baxter says: "I wanted to create more of a family-oriented thing in order to have a real close high school team. I think we've really succeeded in doing that."
