He's chosen because: Guided Bears to 39-3 record and No. 2 national ranking by ESPN RISE after the team won the Tri-River Athletic Conference with a 10-0 mark, took the Central Section title, then, as the No. 1 seed in the Southern California Regional, became the first Central Section team to capture a boys volleyball SoCal championship in a thrilling 24-26, 21-25, 25-17, 25-23, 15-12 match for its 32nd consecutive victory.

Background: Jay, a Clovis West graduate, played club volleyball at Fresno State. He was an assistant coach at Clovis West two years and served another seven at Buchanan before taking over in 2002. During the summer, he runs the Clovis Volleyball Club that practices on a beach court in his backyard.

He said it: "The results showed in all the offseason work they do," Clovis West coach Bob McCarthy said. "John got his guys focused every time they stepped onto the court."
