Real estate broker Larry Fortune announced his candidacy for the District 2 Fresno County supervisor seat Wednesday.

Fortune, a resident of the Old Fig Garden neighborhood, indicated he would run in January when incumbent Susan Anderson announced she would not seek re-election but formalized his bid at a press event Wednesday.

"I want to see Fresno thrive and prosper so that my children and all citizens of Fresno County can succeed and flourish in the future," he said in a statement.

The election, which is drawing interest from a handful of candidates, is next year.
