She's qualified because: A Central Section record-holder in the 300 hurdles as one of the state's top track and field performers, Monteverde proved to be an impact on the volleyball court, too.
The first-team All-Tri River Athletic Conference pick had 248 kills, 141 digs, 53 blocks, 18 assists and 11 aces while helping the Golden Eagles capture the league title and finish second in the Central Section in Division I.
She said it: "I love these multi-sport athletes who come out and work hard and commit to a sport that's not their No. 1 sport. It's been such a joy to have an athlete of her caliber. Her speed, agility and power, all of those things are perfect for volleyball. She should have been an outside, but we put her in the middle because of her speed and vertical. At the tournaments we went to, she was always the smallest middle we saw, but she did a good job against a lot of Division I bound middles." – Clovis West coach Rhonda DeRuiter.
