She's qualified because: Got off to a hot start by winning the Large Schools Division of the Clovis Invitational in a school-record 18:36, a time that would prove to be the fastest of the season for a Central Section freshman and fifth overall.

She also placed seventh in the Central Section D-I race (19:02) and 59th in the state D-I event (18:50).

He said it: "We tried to bring Sami along very slow. We used her freshman year as a season of learning how to train and race. Sami is very competitive and hates to lose. She has a great work ethic and if she continues to work hard and develop, she is going to be a very good runner." – Timberwolves coach Jim Farmer.
