Gen. Vang Pao, a leader in the Hmong community, remains in critical condition in intensive care at Clovis Community Medical Center.

Vang, 81, was admitted to the hospital Dec. 26 with pneumonia and an ongoing heart problem, according to Charlie Waters, a friend and veterans advocate.

Waters declined to provide further details.

Vang commanded a CIA-trained force to fight communists in southeast Asia in the 1960s and 1970s.

Waters said Vang's family is requesting that well-wishers give the general time to rest and recuperate.
