Sierra sees heavy rain; Fresno a trace

October 24, 2010

A storm that largely skirted the Fresno area Sunday dropped heavy rain in the foothills and the Sierra, but is expected only to shroud the region in clouds today, the National Weather Service in Hanford said.

Fresno got just a trace of rain through 5 p.m. Sunday, but the storm dropped 0.02 on Madera and 0.17 on Merced.

Yosemite Valley received 2.75 inches as of 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The weather system stalled over the north Valley near Merced County, where most of the Valley's rain was delivered, said weather service meteorologist Gary Sanger.

He said the Valley should begin drying out today. But another storm is expected to bring a new chance of rain to the region by Thursday evening, he said.
