A 28-year-old Sanger man was arrested early Sunday in Clovis on suspicion of stealing a car and assaulting a man, Clovis police said.

The suspect demanded money from a man who was sitting in his car on the 900 block of Acacia Avenue, said police spokeswoman Janet Stoll-Lee.

When the man failed to produce money, the suspect hit the man in the head with a gun and took his car, Stoll-Lee said. The suspect ditched the car a few blocks away at Russell and Jefferson avenues, where he was arrested about 1 a.m.
