Vitals: Clovis West, senior, second baseman
He's qualified because: Walked and scored in his first at-bat, doubled three times in season-opening sweep of state power Rocklin and never let up in the Golden Eagles' march to the top of Baseball America's national rankings in late April, their final No. 4 state ranking and Central Section D-I runner-up finish. It all began with this leadoff hitter, who batted .405 with 40 runs, 22 RBIs and 17 steals without being caught. He was also exceptional defensively, which helped land him an offer to play at Fresno State.
He said it: "He was groomed for this role and made our offense go at the top of the order. He does everything the right way and is a gamer. He's one of the best defensive players I've ever coached, he's really smooth, and he could help Fresno State next year, he's that good defensively." Golden Eagles coach Kevin Patrick
