Vitals: Clovis East, senior, 100/200

He's qualified because: Pulled the rare trick of winning the Central Section Grand Masters 100 meters out of lane 1 (top-seeded runners are in lanes 4-5-6). Further, after arriving seeded 11th with a North Area-qualifying time of 11.26, the 5-4 athlete won in a wind-aided 10.70. Also was third in the 200 in 21.75.

He said it: "My coaching philosophy is the rubber band effect -- you pull back, back, back and, in the end, it pops. And Richard was ready to pop. We always knew he had potential. It was just a matter of everything lining up, and it did." -- Timberwolves sprint coach Ron Murry
