Vitals: Bullard, junior, 3,200

She's qualified because: A year after placing fifth in the section 3,200 — and behind three runners who would return this season — she took control, blowing away the section-finals field by 18 seconds to win in 10:48.77. That's the ninth-best time in section history and No. 3 all time for a junior. She then literally threw a shoe in the state finals, ran the second mile with a sock and still placed 14th with a 10:56.61 time that ranks among the top 20 in section annals.

He said it: "She's got a fire in her, a burning passion, and you see it every time she runs and practices. She definitely would have medaled [top six in the state] had someone not clipped her heel. She's one of the best competitors I've ever seen." — Knights coach Chris Berrian.
