Need to know: Captured his second straight state medal with a 6-4 victory over Sultana-Hesperia’s Matthew Welch in the third-place match.

Gaytan was fourth at 103 pounds as a freshman.

He went 37-7 with 22 pins on the season.

Gaytan scored tournament titles at the Temecula Valley Invitational, the Central Grizzlies Tournament and the Zinkin Classic, as well as a third at the Doc Buchanan.

Placed third (Tri-River Athletic Conference), second (Divisionals) and third (Masters) during postseason run.

He said it: “Probably our most skilled wrestler on the team as far as technique and executing skills. I told Daniel we’re going to work to get him to the finals so he can become a state champion in the next two years. I think he has the ability to do it.” — Clovis assistant Adam Tirapelle
