  Please present an oversized thumbs down to the local television media for their failure to cover high school wrestling. Despite a high level of success in our area, wrestling has been ignored on a routine basis by our news channels.

  The state championships for girls' wrestling was held last weekend in Lemoore, and there was no TV coverage. The boys' Valley championships were also overlooked. I do not recall any other Valley championship contests, or certainly any state championships in the area, receiving this type of neglect. It must be mentioned that KMPH-26 has noted the sport and covered the international success of the Doi sisters.

  How is it that a sport as accessible (see Anthony Robles and hundreds of other examples) and as fundamental (virtually all young mammals wrestle in some form) as this one can be disregarded in this manner?

  It is not only our right, but our duty to question our elected officials -- not only their motives, but the ways in which they get what they want without regard to what the people want.

  A recent letter in The Bee referred to Section 1218 of the Fresno City Charter. If this is right, there appears to be some irregularities in the outsourcing of departments within the city. If nothing else, this may deserve further investigation.

  We are asked to give more and get less, so spending of tax dollars must be looked at more carefully. Just because City Hall holds the purse strings doesn't mean the purse belongs to them.

  On Tuesday in The Fresno Bee, I read "In tough economy, older isn't better...it's brutal." My husband and I are in our late 50s. According to the article, we've lost our earning power and our retirement savings; our home value fell, we are supporting our aged parents and adult children, and our health, income security and mental health have been battered by the recession.

  How odd that I was just reflecting this weekend on how comfortable our lives have become. We have always tried to live frugally and that hasn't changed. But, at last, we don't have to worry about how we are going to pay the monthly bills, like we did when we were raising our family. Our home is nearly paid for. We are no longer financially stressed. Our mothers are doing fine. Our children are not reliant upon us, though they have been off and on over the past few years, but that did not qualify as "brutal."

  We are concerned about our retirement accounts, but we are not losing sleep over it. We try to eat right and exercise and our health

  It's about free enterprise

  I am writing in response to Charles Arnold's Feb. 25 letter. I know times are economically tough for all companies, large and small, but for Mr. Arnold trying to get free advertising at the expense of larger companies is wrong.

  America is based on free enterprise. Everyone gets the same shot at success. Hard work is what America has been based on, not the size of the company or stereotyping companies because of one or two bad experiences is wrong.

  At my place of business, I consider us to be a medium to large company. We strive to meet the needs of every customer. We hire people who want to service the community and are part of our community. We respect our customers' time and homes. We have a list of happy customers who have used us for years and will continue to use us. Our company has been around for more than 50 years in service to our community and will continue to be around and back up all of our work.
