Clovis North's Vince Rodriguez reaffirmed his status as the section's top 125-pound wrestler -- and avenged a previous loss -- over the weekend with an 8-4 victory over Lemoore's second-ranked Isaiah Martinez in the final at the California Invitational Tournament in Morro Bay.

Rodriguez was named the MVP lower weight of the tournament after going 5-0 with two pins at the 52-team tournament. The junior had lost to Martinez, a freshman, 4-1 in the semifinals of the Doc Buchanan Invitational on Jan. 6.

Rodriguez was one of nine Fresno-area wrestlers to win Saturday at the CIT. Other champions included: Washington's David Rico (103), Clovis East's Patrick Phaysamone (112), Sanger's A.J. Valles (130), Clovis East's Moses Quesada (135), Madera South's Jonathan Gomez (140), Lemoore's Nick Sierra (152), Lemoore's Jacob Pendleton (160) and Cesar Chavez's Noel Gomez (215).
