THE BUZZ

Clovis East, which is 2-0 in the Tri-River Athletic Conference, can strengthen its control of the league this week with a sweep at Clovis West (0-2) and at home against Buchanan (2-0). It was on the Timberwolves' court last season that they closed in on a 10-0 TRAC run by throttling Buchanan 90-66 only to lose 70-69 in the final seconds as a top seed to the Bears in the first round of the Central Section Division I playoffs nine days later.

Central's greatest challenge may be itself at the free throw line. The Grizzlies are shooting nearly 60% from the field, yet only 54% at the line. They missed 8-of-15 free throws in an 85-78 home-court loss to Clovis East. And that occurred three days after they missed the front end of three consecutive bonus situations late in the game while holding on to a 72-64 win at Clovis West.

A lot more will be learned tonight about Sunnyside, a soft 15-1, in a North Yosemite League game at Memorial.

The latest Cody Kessler-Jordan Burris duel was a beauty in Kern County. Longtime friends and opponents, Kessler scored 31 points to lead Centennial to a 74-59 Southwest Yosemite League rout of Stockdale, which received 35 from Burris.
