He's qualified because: He was a key contributor to Bears' Tri-River Athletic Conference and Central Section Division I championships.

He ran third in the league (15:53), second in the section (15:42) and 49th in the CIF State Championships (15:58), all at Woodward Park's 3.1-mile course.

He said it: "This guy has such determination, focus and work ethic. If I had five of him, we'd win state every year. He wants to be the fastest kid ever at Buchanan, and he can be. He's going to be phenomenal." Bears coach Marty Simpson
