School: Roosevelt

Class: Senior

He's qualified because: Four-year varsity runner placed first to lead the Routh Riders to their fourth-straight Fresno City Championship and finished second in the North Yosemite League (15:49 ) before establishing a school record while placing second in the section D-III final (15:31).

He equalled that mark while placing ninth at the state meet. And, finally, he earned AAU All-America honors by winning the National Young Men’s Championship in Orlando, Fla.

He said it: "Without a doubt, Johnny is the best cross country runner to have ever come out of Roosevelt High School. He set out goals for this season and achieved a majority of them. All season he trained for the state championships. Last season, he finished 17th. He wanted to finish in the top 10 this year. And, by finishing ninth at the state meet Johnny capped an outstanding cross country career at Roosevelt." — Rough Riders coach Bruce Wade.
