Nightclubs and music

* The New Year's Eve bash at 600 Club at Chukchansi Park is making use of the city's new ordinance allowing downtown nightspots to stay open until 4 a.m. In addition, the 18-and-over party is hosted by Fresno rapper Fashawn, who garnered plenty of national attention in 2009. There also will be food served all night, a penthouse atmosphere and the sounds of DJs G and Rome. Cover charge is $15. Doors open at 10 p.m. Details: (559) 394-5779.

* The Den at Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino in Lemoore is going the pin-up route for its welcome 2010 party. It's bringing to town two past Playboy Playmates of the Year -- Sara Jean Underwood (2007) and Jayde Nicole (2008). Joining them are DJs Erb and John Magic. This casino party will also keep going until 4 a.m. Tickets cost $40 in advance, $50 at the door or $100 for VIP. Details: (559) 925-2758.

* The lavish Grand 1401 Ballroom, 1401 Fulton St., is hosting a red-carpet, upscale-dress, 21-and-over event dubbed The Countdown. Valet parking, three $500 giveaways and DJs Jess and Kam are on the bill for the party. Tickets cost $25 for general admission, $35 for VIP (no line, free valet) and $75 for "ultra VIP" (includes admittance to an afterhours event). Tables can reserved by calling (310) 654-9533. Details: interfloent.com.

* Two longtime Fresno favorites come together to ring in 2010 at Audie's Olympic, 1426 N. Van Ness Ave. World-traveling blues group MoFo Party Band and roots rock band Glen Delpit and the Subterraneans will have the dance floor grooving. Showtime is 9 p.m. Tickets cost $20. Details: (559) 233-3733.

* If blues is what you're after, then head to Babylon, 1064 N. Fulton St., where Ron Thompson and The Resistors are shutting down 2009. The group plays at Babylon each Thursday, and has long built a crowd of blues-hungry fans about Fresno. Lest you wonder, "Why do I want to ring in the new year with a case of the blues?" -- know that Thompson and Co. bring a revved-up party sound. Showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets cost $10. Details: cvblues.org.

* Starline Salsa Club takes the reigns at Starline, 831 E. Fern Ave. The night promises funky Latin music from a number of genres -- salsa, merengue, cumbia, reggaetón and more. There's a mixture of DJs and live percussion, a dance contest and party favors. Tickets cost $15, or $25 for couples before 10 p.m. Ladies are 2-for-1 before 10 p.m. Details: (559) 222-2633.
