On Friday night, local goth-rock band Alexandria Burning introduces Fresno to its brand of "Fear."
The band will celebrate its two-years-in-the-making CD "The Fear Gospels" at Audie's Olympic, 1426 N. Van Ness
Ave.
Also on the show is dark Bay Area rock band Tell-Tale Heartbreakers and DJ Maverick Cadaverick. The show also marks the first FresnoGoth.com event in four years. Showtime is 9 p.m. Cover is $6.
The members of Alexandria Burning - Rod Walker (guitar), Iyan Reed (guitar), Vince Corsaro (drums), Hendrik Groger (bass) and Nedal Habbas (vocals) - are not new to local music scene. Between them, they've played in groups such as Sleepover Disaster, Sippy and Old Guzzler, The Shroud and Wax Erratic.
We chatted with Alexandria Burning to find out more about its origins, its new CD and Friday night's concert.
Give us the CliffsNotes version of the Alexandria Burning story? Iyan and Nedal got together a few years ago with the idea that there was way too much complaining and whining about girlfriends in music and decided on a more socially and politically conscious direction. Named after the legendary Library of Alexandria, we try to bring back mythology and philosophy through poetry and music.
I know Vince also plays in Sleepover Disaster. What other bands have you guys been a part of? Nedal was the vocalist for Wax Erratic also bass player for Sippy and Old Guzzler. Vince also played in Wax Erratic. Rod, Iyan and Hendrik are also The Shroud.
Describe Alexandria Burning's style and influences. As if the Marquis de Sade and Joan of Ark had a child and listened to Husker Du, Nick Cave, Peter Murphy, The Doors and Velvet Underground. Good old-fashioned rock and roll!
What should people know about your CD, "The Fear Gospels?"
You can have sex to it. Not Barry White sex. Well, maybe some. I think there is something there for everyone.
Where can people listen to it and/or buy it? CD Baby, Amazon and iTunes.
Tell us what to expect from the CD release show? Fire! A wild ride. Passion. Earnestness. Everything we have is on the chopping block.
Anything else coming up that fans should look out for? We only get better as we start working on our next CD. More interesting collaborations with local and out-of-town artists.
