DIVISION I
Liberty-Bakersfield 27, Central 21
Dillon Meadows' 25-yard touchdown run on Liberty-Bakersfield's first play of the second overtime lifted the Patriots to a 27-21 victory Friday night over host Central, setting up an all-Bakersfield semifinal in the Central Section Division I playoffs.
It was a rough night for the No. 4 Grizzlies, who fell behind 14-0 before tying it on B.J. Kelley's leaping 30-yard touchdown catch on the first play of the fourth quarter.
After both teams scored touchdowns in the first overtime, Liberty (8-3) held Central (7-4) out of the end zone, and Seth Buchnoff pushed a 37-yard field-goal attempt wide right.
Cason Moyer had 150 rushing yards and Meadows added 101 for Liberty.
Central's top playmaker, Brendon Bigelow, was knocked out of the game in the first overtime. Bigelow finished with 49 rushing yards and 33 receiving.
The No. 5 Patriots will face No. 8 Centennial, which upset No. 1 Buchanan.
DIVISION II
Tulare 55, Sanger 12
Not even a power outage could dim another bright night for Tulare and quarterback Trevor Jones against overmatched Sanger in the Division II playoffs.
The top-seeded Redskins (11-0), who had a bye in the first round, looked sharp in a 55-12 blowout Friday night, the first step to a second straight section title and undefeated season.
Tulare faces No. 5 Edison in the semifinals. Sanger, the eighth seed, finishes 6-6.
Trevor Jones rushed 11 times for 151 yards and two touchdowns. The Redskins gave up 141 yards on the ground to Conner Luallen but not much else.
Luallen carried eight times and scored on runs of 47 and 74 yards, but the Apaches totaled just 69 more yards.
Jones, who completed 8 of 13 passes for 132 yards, had a hand in six Tulare touchdowns. He ran for scores of 1 and 4 yards and passed for four touchdowns -- 25 and 14 yards to Riley Barnes, 5 yards to Jacob Guerrero and 6 yards to Marquess Wilson.
Edison 17, Memorial 7
Dasheon Frierson scored a rushing touchdown and Max Schuh had a touchdown pass to Shaquille Moseley, both in the first half, as the No. 5 Tigers beat the No. 4 Panthers for a second straight year in the postseason.
After David Garcia scored for Memorial on its opening possession of the third quarter, Fidel McDonald nailed a field goal for Edison's final points.
DIVISION III
Dinuba 34, Clovis North 14
The division's top seed had no trouble advancing, ending the Broncos' first varsity season.
James Pelham rushed 20 times for 197 yards and scored on runs of 25, 69 and 19 yards for the Emperors (9-2), who will square off against No. 5 Hanford.
The Emperors had a hard time stopping Alec Mechikoff (15 carries, 118 yards, two touchdowns), but kept the ninth-seeded Broncos off the board in the second and fourth quarters.
Ivan Hodges also had 85 yards rushing and 55-yard touchdown for Dinuba, and David Rico found Jeremy Gomez on a 6-yard pass for a score.
Hanford 44, Delano 39
Cannon Sanchez passed for 545 yards and six touchdowns and the No. 5 Bullpups needed every one of them to hold off the No. 4 Tigers.
Hanford (8-4) rallied from 33-24 down entering the fourth quarter.
Sanchez completed 20 of 33 passes and was intercepted twice. But he was on target most of the night, finding Brayden Sanchez for four his scoring passes.
Brayden Sanchez caught eight passes for 285 yards. Connor Kurtz also scored on a 50-yard catch and run and kicked a 13-yard field goal.
Marcus Avellanoza led Delano (9-3) with 16 carries for 140 yards and a touchdown.
