Memorial 29, Sunnyside 3
The battle of North Yosemite League unbeatens turned out to be no contest as No. 6 Memorial smothered Sunnyside 29-3 Friday night to capture the league title.
Chris Brown had 127 rushing yards and a touchdown for the Panthers (9-1 overall, 5-0 NYL). Bryant Cummings added 155 passing yards and two touchdowns as Memorial raced to a 23-0 halftime lead.
"It was one of those grinding games." Memorial coach Anthony Goston said.
The Panthers held Sunnyside (5-6, 4-1) to 173 yards of total offense and nine first downs.
LeJon Mason accounted for most of the Wildcats' offense with 98 rushing yards.
Bullard 35, Hoover 13
The Knights defense threw a shutout in the second half, preserving a 10-0 regular season and capping a Country/Metro Athletic Conference championship for the section's No. 2 team entering the D-I playoffs.
Demetrius Warren rushed 14 times for 113 yards and scored on runs of 15 and 10 yards to pace the Knights in the Battle of Barstow game.
No. 17 Hoover (6-4, 2-3) was down only 14-13 at the half, but Bullard created distance with a Jordan Jones 1-yard scoring run and put it away on Kyle Staples' 3-yard touchdown.
Hoover's Shane Martinez passed for 120 yards, completing 12 of 30 passes with one interception.
TRAC finales
Clovis West and Clovis East finished third and fourth in the Tri-River Athletic Conference.
At Lamonica Stadium, No. 9 Clovis West reached .500 for the regular season with a 28-13 win over Clovis in the Range Rider Trophy game. Clovis West leads the series between the Clovis district's two oldest schools 21-17.
At Madera, No. 14 Clovis East beat Madera 35-28. The Timberwolves jumped to a 21-6 lead, then repelled late charges.
Madera announced before the game that it had to win to advance to the playoffs.
Washington 51, Kerman 0
Adam McCurley rushed seven times for 142 yards and three touchdowns and passed for three scores to lead the No. 19 Panthers past the Lions in Easton.
Yafett Thomas added 106 yards rushing and scored two touchdowns for Washington, which wrapped up an undefeated North Sequoia League season.
The Panthers preserved the shutout with the help of Marc Mendoza's fumble recovery at the Washington 8 in the third quarter.
Kingsburg 43, Selma 14
In a game Tennessee-bound quarterback Tyler Bray threw one touchdown pass, the Vikings used a punishing ground game to complete an unbeaten regular-season run with a Central Sequoia League championship.
John Alcala rushed 14 times for 149 yards with scoring runs of 42 and 8 yards for the Vikings. Bray completed 12 of 18 passes with a 1-yard scoring toss to Christopher Theissen, but he was intercepted twice.
Jesus Mosqueda led Selma with 126 yards rushing on 19 carries and scored on a 4-yard burst.
Mendota 40, Firebaugh 23
Mario Ochoa passed for 194 yards and three touchdowns, as the Aztecs beat the Eagles in a game to decided second place in the West Sierra League.
Tulare 47, Tulare Western 0
Tulare High finished its third straight undefeated regular season Friday night, beating Tulare Western 47-0 in the 45th annual Bell Game at Bob Mathias Stadium.
Playing before an estimated 5,500 fans, the No. 5 Redskins (10-0, 6-0) likely wrapped up the top seed in the Central Section Division II playoffs. Seedings will be set today.
Tulare's third straight win over Tulare Western pushed its lead in the Bell Game series to 32-13.
Trevor Jones completed 8 of 15 passes for 144 yards and four touchdowns, and Edward Dillihunt rushed seven times for 112 yards and three touchdowns -- all in the first half. The second half was played with a running clock.
