  Police investigating southeast Fresno residents' complaints about gunfire arrested 23-year-old man late Wednesday night. Sgt. Rudy Tafoya said officers went to a neighborhood near Hamilton and Chance avenues and were checking an apartment complex nearby when they saw the man come out of an apartment with a handgun. They ordered the man to surrender, but he went back into the apartment, where he lived with his girlfriend and her 1-year-old child.

  Police arrested an armed man Tuesday after he attacked officers as they attempted to search him in southeast Fresno.

  Two officers saw a man riding his bicycle the wrong way down a street near Winery and Lane avenues, said Sgt. James Fowler. The officers stopped the 32-year-old man to search him for weapons and cite him for riding against the flow of traffic, Fowler said.

  As officers began searching the man, he began fighting officers, then broke free and ran to the parking lot of a nearby Home Depot, Fowler said. Officers caught the man and found a small, loaded handgun in his jacket.

  A man arrested nearly 20 times in the past three years on burglary, theft and drug charges was taken into custody again Thursday by Fresno police.

  Sgt. Len Gleim said undercover officers were conducting an anti-burglary operation in central Fresno when they got a report of a prowler at a vacant house on the 600 block of West Princeton Avenue.

  The 22-year-old man was seen in a backyard shed and taken into custody. Gleim said officers learned the man was sought on nearly $2 million in warrants for burglary, possession of stolen property, drugs and theft.
