Enter the Warzone, ravings of a lunatic mind.

Ryan Mathews could be the best running back in college football and deserves every accolade to come his way.

That said, Fresno State should forget about the Heisman Trophy and push Mathews for an award he can actually win. Like the Doak Walker.

*The only way a player from outside the BCS cartel has a sniff at the Heisman is if his team goes undefeated. (See Kellen Moore, Boise State).

*Utah State, as it showed Saturday afternoon, is a better football team than most think. Fresno State was fortunate to get out of Bulldog Stadium with a 31-27 victory.

*How in the world does a guy with a club hand (Bulldogs defensive end Chris Carter) get called for a face mask? "I'm still trying to figure that one out," Carter said with a chuckle.

*The Tour of California may not be returning to Clovis next year, but a photo of last year's sprint finish on Pollasky Avenue made the cover of VeloNews' 2010 calendar.

The picture is a little hazy because some fans at the finish line went overboard with yellow chalk. Nothing to do with our air quality.

*The NBA promises a thorough review of the latest allegations made by ex-referee Tim Donaghy.

In the meantime, continue taking the points in all games officiated by Dick Bavetta.

*One day after we poked Bulldogs men's basketball coach Steve Cleveland for closing all practices, Fresno State announced Community Hoops Night at 6 p.m. Monday at the Save Mart Center.

A coincidence? Probably. A good move? Definitely.

*With 6-foot-10 freshman Greg Smith joining potent scorers Paul George and Sylvester Seay, the Bulldogs might surprise some people.

Point guard and post defense are the biggest question marks. Same as last year.

*Some people just can't admit a mistake: San Francisco Giants GM Brian Sabean re-signs Freddy Sanchez, coming off knee surgery and a sprained shoulder, to a $12 million contract.

*In her divorce filing, Jamie McCourt is asking for joint control of the Los Angeles Dodgers, monthly spousal support of $482,634 and first dibs on Manny Ramirez's dreadlocks.

*For no particular reason: Mickey Morandini.

*Andre Agassi told People magazine last week that he used crystal meth for "about a year" in the late '90s.

Positively shocking. All this time, we thought his hair loss was natural.

The Warzone never used crystal meth but his hair fell out all the same. Console him at marekw@fresnobee.com or (559)441-6218.
