The Rams (17-4, 9-0) won 25-8, 25-9, 26-16 to maintain a two-game lead over College of the Sequoias.

COS handled host Columbia 3-0. The Giants (10-5, 7-2) won 25-13, 25-14, 25-22.

Katrina Goulborne and Olga Velasquez combined for 22 kills and Laura Lopez had 31 assists as Porterville downed Reedley 25-11, 25-20, 25-11.

Fresno Pacific men open with easy hoops victory

Fresno Pacific justified its No. 3 NAIA men's basketball preseason ranking with a dominating performance against Holy Names in Friday night's season opener.

All-America guard James Lewis scored a game-high 26 points in 29 minutes, and the Sunbirds crushed the Hawks 91-52 at the Special Events Center.

Lewis made 11 of 17 shots, including 4 of 8 on 3-point attempts.

Alex Davenport added 16 points, Todd Brown 15, and two transfers, 6-foot-10 center RouSean Cromwell (USC) and guard Jesse Childs (Wisconsin-Green Bay), contributed 11 and 10, respectively.

Jordan Wild had 11 rebounds to help the Sunbirds to a 49-21 advantage on the boards.

The Sunbirds women lost to Holy Names 76-66 in Oakland.

Blaze wins twice in Vegas

The Central California Blaze 18-under baseball team won two games by mercy rule at the 19th annual Las Vegas Fall Classic.

Aaron Graef (Central High) allowed one hit and struck out four in three innings in a 10-0 victory over the Upland Pirates. Jordan Brink (Central) went 3 for 3 with two RBIs. Mike Gilliland (Clovis West) was 2 for 2 with an RBI.

The Blaze beat North Las Vegas 11-1 in four innings. Aaron Blair of Las Vegas, whose father played at Fresno City College, pitched three perfect innings with six strikeouts for the win. Steven Lozier (Buchanan) and Eric Karch (Clovis West) each hit two-run singles. Luke Riley (Yosemite) had two RBIs.

Lifters bring home titles

Bob Lincoln Jr. set three world age-group records in winning the 259-pound class at the World Association of Benchers and Deadlifters world meet in Reno, Nev.

The 42-year-old Lincoln Jr., who trains at Lincoln's World of Iron private gym in Fresno, had efforts of 633, 644 and 650 pounds and was named the outstanding lifter.

Nick Diliddo, 76, won the 198 class with a lift of 259 pounds for the Lincoln's World team. Dennis Lowry, 42, and Howard Garris, 67, earned second-place finishes in the 242 division.
