  A man sought on charges of writing bogus checks is in jail in Madera County, Madera Sheriff's spokeswoman Erica Stuart said today.

  The 42-year-old man was pulled over at Clinton and Marks avenues in Fresno at 11 p.m. Monday night. Fresno police learned that he had a $25,000 warrant in connection with the checks, which totaled more than $1,400.

  A 23-year-old man was arrested early today on suspicion of burglary and possessing stolen property after a six-hour standoff with Madera County sheriff’s deputies.

  Deputies received a tip about 6 p.m. Thursday that the man was at a home on Segovia Court in Madera and that he had nearly a dozen stolen firearms, a sheriff’s spokeswoman said.

  When deputies arrived, they told the Madera man to surrender. Instead, he ran back inside the home. Deputies called a SWAT unit because of the man’s criminal history and the report of the firearms in his possession.

  A man and a woman arrested last month in a SWAT standoff are back in jail after a deputy tried to stop their vehicle this morning, leading to a short pursuit and crash, the Madera County Sheriff's Department said.

  The 23-year-old man -- driving the car -- and 21-year-old woman, both of Madera, were in an Acura Integra that failed to yield on Umber Drive near Avenue 15 1/2. The pursuit ended when the Acura crashed near Avenue 16 and Road 29 1/2.

  The man, woman and a 17-year-old boy all ran from the car but were captured quickly.
