The long-awaited debut album from local rockers Fay Wrays is just about here.

"Mata Hari" will be released via iTunes on Oct. 20 through Los Angeles-label JAXart Records. The band has scheduled a CD-release party Thursday at Audie's Olympic, 1426 N. Van Ness Ave., where fans can pick up hard copies of the CD and hear songs from the album live.

"The record gives a pretty good sense of what our live show feels like, in that we are shamelessly raw and discordant," says frontman Benji McEntee.

While Fay Wrays are a relatively new band, its trio of members are no strangers to the local scene. Made up of former and current members of bands such as Soma Holidays, The Nancies and Rademacher, Fay Wrays play a brooding, dark-ish rock. In the music, you'll find influences of punk and metal, but also indie rock.

On Thursday, they're joined by Wheels of Fortune and Racelegs. Showtime is 9 p.m. Cover is $5.

Fay Wrays aren't the only local musicians with new releases of note. Here are some others.
