School: Buchanan

He’s qualified because: In maybe the most impressive triple delivered by a high school track and field coach in Central Section history, Weaver won the boys section title — the school’s first — placed second by a point in the girls and then, while continuing to manage his program, co-directed a 1,200-athlete state meet at Buchanan that knocked the Nikes off CIF officials.

While his girls had won three section championships, his boys had placed second six times in 14 years before dominating this season’s field by 45 1/5 points.

He said it: “There was a lot of early morning and late nights, but the time had to come from somewhere. This sport has done a lot for me personally. I get a lot back from those kids, so I try to give a lot back to them. I want them to say, ‘This is outstanding, one of the greatest things I’ve been a part of.’ If I can do that, it’s really, really important.” — Weaver
