Vitals: Clovis West, sophomore, catcher

He’s qualified because: In a year catching talent was a bit shy in the section, he was the exception — and as a sophomore, no less.

He hit .402 with seven doubles, a triple and two home runs, drove in 29 runs, batted .406 with runners in scoring position and threw out 60% of attempted base stealers.

He said it: “He’s such a polished hitter for his age. From last year to this year, he learned to make adjustments at the plate that most kids his age are unable to make. He established himself as one of the top hitters in the Valley and, with his work ethic, he’s only going to get better.” — Clovis West coach Kevin Patrick
