School: Selma

Year: Freshman

Weight: 103 pounds

Record: 46-0

Need to know: At 14, became seventh — and youngest — freshman state champion. Was also first freshman champion to go undefeated. Won every tournament (Reno TOC, Five Counties, Mid-Cals, CSL, Division II, Masters) he entered.

The word: “He’s a kid who’s never opened his mouth and said ‘I’m going to do this or I’m going to do that.’ He just wrestles. I mean, he wants to win, there is no doubt about that. But he’s not a kid that’s going to put himself out there and brag about himself. It’s hard to believe a kid can be that humble, because if I was that good, I’d be telling everybody who would listen.” — Selma coach Sam Lopez
