School: Madera

Year: Junior

Weight: 160 pounds

Record: 28-7

Need to know: Captured his third state medal with a fourth-place finish, despite wrestling with a pin in his broken foot all season. Was second at 152 pounds as a sophomore and seventh at 152 as a freshman, both while wrestling for Clovis West. Won the Doc Buchanan title at 171 pounds and the Canyon Springs Tournament title at 160.

The word: “He had to adjust his style of wrestling. When most wrestlers shoot takedowns, you need a power step. He didn’t have that because of the foot. So he had to go to more of an upper-body style and he still had success.” — Madera coach Joe Romine
