Need to know: A four-year starter, Cruz was voted the West Sierra League’s Most Valuable Player this season when he led his team with 33 goals; he also had 13 assists.

Cruz, who earned first-team all-league honors as a sophomore and junior, finished his career with 71 goals. He was named his team’s Outstanding Offensive Player for 2007-08.

The Tigers went 6-2 this season to finish second to Mendota in the WSL. Tranquillity beat the Aztecs 1-0 in the Central Section Division VI final. The Tigers lost 2-1 to Parlier in the opening round of the Southern California Division III Regional to finish 21-3.

“He has excelled in his ability to dribble the ball by giving a splendid finish with his delicate, precise touch, which makes him a solid striker taking on defenders with speed and reaching the net,” Tranquillity coach Jesus Cruz said.
