Name: Stephanie Olff

School: Clovis High

Year: Senior

Position: Defender

Need to know: A four-year starter, Olff was crucial to a defense that allowed 11 goals and posted 16 shutouts in 25 games this season; she also scored a goal and had two assists. She was a first-team All-Tri-River Athletic Conference pick as a senior, helping the Cougars win the league with a 10-0 record. “She has been a rock in the back for us,” Clovis coach Jon Howerton said. “She has played well all four years and had a great senior year. She provided leadership as well as good play for the team.”

Name: Nikki Poindexter

School: Clovis High

Year: Sophomore

Position: Defender

Need to know: Poindexter played a key role on a defense that allowed 11 goals and had 16 shutouts in 25 games this season; she also scored seven goals and had five assists. “Nikki understands the game very well and has great anticipation and decision-making ability,” Clovis coach Jon Howerton said. “She plays at a fast pace and has tremendous potential in soccer. She is also tough and dedicated, playing over half the season with a torn meniscus and a fractured knee.”

Name: Lynn Williams

School: Bullard High

Year: Sophomore

Positions: Midfielder/forward

Need to know: A second-year player and two-time All-County/Metro Athletic Conference pick, Williams led the Knights with 18 goals and eight assists this season. She was named Bullard’s Best Offensive Player as a freshman and earned the Captain’s Award this season for what coach Jay Johnson called “outstanding leadership and inspiration on and off the field.”

Williams played with a foot injury most of the 2007-08 season. She was cleared to play after surgery a week before tryouts started this past season.

“By the end of the season, she was the most prolific goal-scorer that Bullard High has ever had,” Johnson said. “She destroyed her opponents with skill, strength and technique.”

Name: Carley Griffin

School: Bullard High

Year: Senior

Positions: Forward/midfielder

Need to know: A four-year player and three-time All-County/Metro Athletic Conference pick, Griffin ranked second for the Knights with 15 goals and six assists this season. She was named Bullard’s Best Offensive Player in 2006-07, earned the Captain’s Award in 2007-08 and the Team Award in 2008-09. She was a team captain as a senior.

“She is a total team player,” Bullard coach Jay Johnson said. “She never quits, never wants to come out. At 5-3 and maybe 110 pounds, she is a tiger on the field and inspires others with her effort.”

Name: Lilliana Ruiz

School: Madera South High

Year: Junior

Position: Forward

Need to know: A three-year player with 61 career goals and 20 assists, Ruiz was a first-team All-North Yosemite League pick this season (28 goals, eight assists). She was All-North Sequoia League her first two seasons, with 20 goals and seven assists as a sophomore and 13 goals and five assists as a freshman.

“Lilly is one of the most skilled ball handlers that I have ever coached,” Madera South coach Gene West said. “She can move a ball around with her feet like jugglers can manipulate a ball with their hands. Her ball skill, speed and strength make her one of the most dominate strikers in the Valley.”

Name: Taylor Dawson

School: Memorial High

Year: Senior

Positions: Defender/forward

Need to know: Playing both offense and defense this season after being named the North Yosemite League’s Defensive Player of the Year as a junior, Dawson scored 10 goals and had five assists. She had five goals and 10 assists as a junior. This season, she held the West Yosemite League’s Offensive Player of the Year, Brooklyn Miller, to one shot in 110 minutes and held Madera South forward Megan Bresnick, the NYL’s leading scorer and Offensive Player of the Year, to four shots in 80 minutes.
