School: Bullard

Year: Junior

Height/weight: 5-9, 184

He’s qualified because: On a team stocked at linebacker — three made All-County/Metro Athletic Conference — it began with Snelling on a a defense that gave up only 14 points each in taming high-powered offenses from Clovis East, Edison and Bakersfield.

Remove Edison’s USC-bound T.J. McDonald from the equation and Snelling would have been CMAC Defensive Player of the Year.

The word: “He’s your classic high school inside linebacker. ... He’s a student of the game, always watching film. He’s a difficult kid to deal with a times because he’s got an energy level that’s so unbelievable he loses his temper. But, in practice, it’s always 100%, and that carries over to games. That whole group of linebackers grew up together, and he wasn’t always the leader. But he became one through shear force of will and what he’s done in the weight room. He’s one of the best high school linebackers I’ve seen in a while.” — Knights coach Donnie Arax.
