  Eleven people were arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated Friday night and early today in Fresno, Clovis and Visalia.

  Fresno police arrested seven people on DUI charges and impounded 15 vehicles at a sobriety checkpoint in the southbound lanes of Wishon Avenue near Hedges Avenue.

  Clovis police took into custody one suspected drunken driver during a checkpoint on northbound Clovis Avenue near Palo Alto Avenue. Seven people were arrested for driving without valid driver’s licenses. Two vehicles were impounded.

  I find it hard to believe that the "Three Strikes" law needs any change at all. When Mike Reynolds helped to draft this law, and it went into effect, I was elated.

  So many crimes are committed by repeat offenders. The Three Strikes law gives citizens some protection and peace of mind.

  Why are we protecting repeat offenders? If someone has two prior violent, felony offenses, I don't feel they should be walking around in society anyway, let alone be given some sort of leniency if their third offense is not as serious.
