Clovis West High

Year: Junior

Height/position: 5-10, setter

She's qualified because: Mandelbaum, a first-team All-Tri-River Athletic Conference pick, is what Madera coach Jeannie Davis called, "by far the best setter in the section." Mandelbaum led the Golden Eagles with 869 assists and ranked second with 242 digs and 41 aces. She also had 111 kills. Her 37.2 hitting percentage ranked third for the Eagles, who won the TRAC and the first Central Section girls volleyball title in the school's 30-year history. Clovis West lost to Santa Margarita in the semifinals of the CIF Southern California Division I playoffs.

The word: "Everyone knows that Mel is just the best setter around," Clovis West assistant coach Travis Herb said.
