Dave Hawk, accused of killing his missing ex-wife, will learn in two weeks whether prosecutors have mustered enough evidence to send the case to trial.

In a short court hearing Thursday in Hanford, Kings County Superior Court Judge Steven Barnes set Aug. 14 for Hawk's preliminary hearing. Hawk, 50, faces a charge of murdering Debbie Hawk, who hasn't been seen since she disappeared in June 2006.

Debbie Hawk, a 46-year-old pharmaceutical representative, was reported missing after her children returned to her Hanford home from a custodial visit with their father. The home was bloody and her van was gone. The van was found several days later in southwest Fresno, and tests showed that blood in the home and van was Debbie Hawk's.

Hanford police declared the case a homicide in July 2006, but her body has not been found.

In a separate case, Hawk is charged with embezzling money from trust funds he set up for the couple's children.
