He's qualified because: Allen led the Golden Eagles to the section Grand Masters team title with 94 points. Edison was second with 56 points (corrected since the section meet). The 38-point spread is an unusually wide margin of victory for track and field.

Career highlights: He finished his 20th year of coaching track and sixth as a head coach, including stints at Clovis High and Hoover. Allen has been head coach at Clovis West for three of his four years. He's won two section titles in his career, one with the 1991 girls team at Hoover and this season at Clovis West.

The word: "What made this year's team so good was its depth. We almost scored the top three points in every event at the league championship. This year at the Valley championships, we scored points in 11 different events and won six events. We also had 11 different athletes score points at the Valley meet." -- Allen
