I usually go camping the weekend before Memorial Day each year to get myself in outdoors-mode for the season, and before the rush of summer activity. This year, I headed to Click for photo slideshow Jerseydale U.S. Forest Service Campground for the weekend of May 18-20.

Though a short, two-night trip, it was just enough to temporarily satisfy my appetite for the great outdoors.

There are good trails in the area, for both hiking and four-wheeling.

Jerseydale Campground is in the northwest corner of the Sierra National Forest about 12 miles from Mariposa. It was only 62 miles from my home in central Fresno and I made the drive in about an hour and a half pulling a tent trailer. I could have made it in less time but was held up by road work and slow traffic.

The campground is at about 3,600 feet elevation. There are 10 sites, trash service, vault toilets and water faucets. There is currently no fee.
