  I have been a regular reader of The Bee for 60 years, since age 10, and I want to thank The Bee for dutifully printing the AP's article (Dec. 12) that points out four "errors" made by several Republican candidates in a recent debate.

  Since The Bee now seems to be interested in the truth, I hope it will also start parsing and reporting the "errors" found in the words of President Obama. He gives at least one speech each day, all aimed at his re-election.

  However, I have noted that he makes a number of comments that would be classified as "errors," but which have been largely ignored by the press. One must assume that the president is aware of some, if not all, of these untruths.

  On Jan. 19, The Bee's Business section reported that U.S. manufacturing increases and positive industrial output figures ending December 2011 were announced by the Federal Reserve.

  Come on GOP wannabes -- have you heard the same news?

  The Bee is to be commended for keeping the controversial issue of the proposed Mexico-based Cemex gravel mine on Jesse Morrow Mountain in view. But shame on whoever is responsible for releasing the final environmental impact report on the project for public review right before Christmas when, as Cemex well knows, people will be focused on other things.

  This was a not-very-subtle ploy to sneak this unpopular project through to approval without the public noticing.

  Keep up the good work, Fresno Bee, and maybe the residents of Fresno County will be awake and show up to be heard, whatever their views, when the Planning Commission holds its hearing on the project in February.

  Sikh art exhibit is a rich cultural resource

  I went to see the recently opened exhibition, "Sikhs: Legacy of the Punjab," at the Fresno Art Museum. I experienced great joy in seeing the thoughtfully planned and thematically well laid out exhibition -- a rare occasion to witness such a historic event in the cultural life of our community.

  The exhibition is fabulously rich in content and character. There are many strikingly gorgeous exhibits that catch your attention, especially a beautiful replica of the Golden Temple in Amritsar, the centerpiece of the exhibition. The Golden Temple is the holiest place of the Sikh faith in India. There is a gallery of miniature paintings and famous Punjabi Phulkari textile on display.

  The exhibition brings the art culture, religion and history of Sikhs closer to home. One learns about the Sikh view of life, the sacred and temporal authority in the religion, a brief history of Sikh rulers in Punjab, contemporary works and achievements of the Sikhs in India.
