Where she lives: Visalia

Occupation, age: Middle school student, 11

Family: Her parents are Jared and Season. She has three siblings, Josh, 13, Jonah, 8, and Brooklyn, 3.

Why should we know her? Chase was selected this year as a regional winner for the Kohl's Kids Who Care Scholarship Program, which started in 2001 and recognizes youth who volunteer in the community.

Chase was among nearly 200 youngsters nationwide honored with $1,000 scholarships. She was recognized for a program she created, Hats-n-Hair From Kids Who Care, that has donated more than 150 baseball-style caps and hair clips to pediatric cancer patients.

Chase was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor one and a half years ago and underwent two months of radiation and four months of chemotherapy at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She started the program while undergoing treatment. The clips, which come in many colors, attach to the back of baseball-style caps to hold a fake ponytail in place; the Burch family has a patent pending. Chase still has hats and hair clips available; those who need them should send an e-mail to fromkidswhocare@yahoo.com.

Chase plans to use the Kohl's scholarship when she goes to college to study to become a fourth-grade teacher.

What are some organizations she belongs to? The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

What are her hobbies? Swimming, reading, acting, kneeboarding, jumping on the trampoline

What would she like to share with others? "You just have to keep a good attitude. No matter what you do, just go with the flow and be happy."
