Clovis Community Medical Center has set a start date of early 2010 for a four-year, $285 million renovation and expansion that will triple its size, officials said Thursday.
The massive construction project will lead to about 600 new hospital jobs with an average salary of $86,000, the medical center said.
It will increase the 109 inpatient beds to 205 private beds, boost the number of beds in intensive care from seven to 24, expand the number of operating rooms from four to 11 and increase emergency-department stations from 13 to 38.
It will be the hospital system's largest expansion since the construction of a six-story trauma and critical-care building at Community Regional Medical Center in downtown Fresno a decade ago, officials said.
The expansion calls for a five-story tower, a special-care nursery, new parking structure and a women's pavilion.
A projected population growth of 15,000 over 15 years in the hospital's service area is the catalyst. It is expected to be finished in 2013, hospital officials said.
