Gallery 25's February fundraising show, "Hearts," is a members' exhibition featuring contemporary paintings, drawings, mixed media, digital imagery and photography. Visitors are encouraged to add to one component, a canned-goods heart-shaped sculpture that will be a work in progress until the end of the exhibit. 'Inspiracion' honors Rivera protege Esperanza Martinez

Esperanza Martinez, a trailblazing Mexican-born artist who was a select private pupil of legendary muralist Diego Rivera, is the subject of a major new exhibition at Arte Americas.

Paintings, drawings and private letters are featured in "Inspiracion: Original Works by Esperanza Martinez." The artist -- working in oils, pencil, charcoal and ceramic paint -- was best known for her portraits and genre paintings of rural Mexican farmers, indigenous Mexicans and Native American subjects.
