Five Fresno State football players were named today to an academic all-district team, giving the Bulldogs more honorees than any other team in the country.

Senior safety Moses Harris, senior punter Robert Malone, junior tight end Vince Pascoe, junior offensive guard Andrew Jackson and sophomore kicker Kevin Goessling all made the Academic All-District 8 team. Harris last week was named one of 16 finalists for the Campbell Trophy, given to the nation's top senior scholar-athlete in college football.

District 8 encompasses schools in the West. BYU and Washington State each placed three players on the all-district team; Stanford and Cal had two apiece. No players from USC or UCLA made the list.

Penn State put four players on the District 4 list, the next-best total nationwide.

All-district players go on the national ballot to be considered for the Academic All-America team.

The Academic All-America program is run by CoSIDA, the College Sports Information Directors of America, a group founded in 1957.

Also today, Crista Jones, a senior at University of La Verne from Sunnyside High, made the District 8 college division second team in volleyball
