Two road projects in Clovis will close streets and affect traffic patterns over the next month.

Temperance Avenue's frontage road north of Sierra Avenue in Clovis has been closed temporarily for paving. It will reopen Wednesday when the project is completed.

Motorists are asked to use Herndon and Locan avenues to get to Cedarwood Elementary School and surrounding neighborhoods.

Also, Temperance Avenue will have traffic control between Gettysburg Avenue and the Gould Canal beginning Wednesday and ending Dec. 18.

Southbound traffic will be shifted to a northbound lane during the street-work project. Motorists should expect delays or, if possible, avoid the area.

Blaze damages bedroom in home

A house fire Sunday night in southwest Fresno caused damage estimated at $3,000 to $5,000 to a bedroom but did not displace the family, Fresno Fire Capt. Lawrence French said.

The fire started in one of the bedrooms of the home on the 1400 block of A Street near Stanislaus Street. When firefighters arrived, one of the residents, a woman, still was inside the home trying to extinguish the fire, French said.

The woman suffered first-degree burns to her foot and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center.
