Vitals: Buchanan, sophomore, 1,600/3,200

She’s qualified because: Launching what’s expected to be a dominating three-year cycle, she won the section 1,600 (4:57.70), placed second in the 3,200 (10:53.27) and ran the section’s fifth-best 800 of the season (2:16.46).

Her season-best 4:56.84 1,600 ranks No. 3 in the section for a sophomore, and her 10:47.59 3,200 is seventh-best in section history for all classes.

He said it: “Oh, that’s a very, very talented young lady who made a commitment to be good. That 1,600 [4:56.84]is fastest ever in Fresno County and a school record. That’s pretty tough. She showed mental and physical toughness. She really made a change to be better.” – Bears coach Brian Weaver.
