Vitals: Madera, senior, utility

He’s qualified because: There may not have been a better 4-8 pitcher in the state, evident in the fact the three-year varsity force trailed only Sean Silva, J.D. Salles, Zach Coy and Brett Bishop in All-Tri-River Athletic Conference voting.

Factoring out a 19-8 win over Clovis East, the Coyotes averaged 1.58 runs and hit .122 behind him as a starting pitcher.

His losses included 1-0 and 2-0 decisions to TRAC-champion Buchanan, including a two-hitter that was countered by a Seth Moranda no-hitter. He finished with a 1.54 ERA, striking out 101 against 24 walks in 86 innings. And he hit .373, including five home runs in the TRAC.

He said it: “He really had a great year. He did everything he could possibly do. When they were pitching around him, I moved him to leadoff and he hit .465 for the last 10 games. And he pitched beautifully all year. To see him pitch so many good games, and lose 1-0 and 2-0, it was heartbreaking. But, what impressed me the most, if he got down, he didn’t show it to his coaches or teammates.” — Madera coach George McWherter
