School: Clovis East

Year: Junior

Position: Guard

Need to know: The “top game-changer in the Valley,” according to Central coach LeBeau, the point guard averaged 14 points, 5.9 rebounds and 5.6 assists.

In a head-to-head duel with Bee Player of the Year Jameal York of Edison, he scored 28 points as the Timberwolves routed the eventual D-I champion 91-74 in an early January nonleague game. A week later, Sandoval stepped out of a 4-hour, Saturday bus ride — this, 12 hours after playing Friday night — and dropped 31 points, 10 assists and eight steals and three bounds on Los Angeles City Section power Cleveland-Reseda as Clovis East rolled 84-69 in Southern California.

“He’s pretty much in a category by himself,” Cleveland coach Osiris Nalls said. Clovis East coach Tim Amundsen added: “When he came out and dominated our summer workouts, and we had a pretty good team, I knew he was something special. He’s a floor leader, a very good defensive player, a good passer, and he scored when we needed him to score. It’s kind of exciting to see what he will do next year. I’m very happy where he’s at right now.”
